Alternative Assessments to Avoid Plagiarism

Dr. Kjersti VanSlyke-Briggs,
Department of Secondary Education and Educational Technology,
SUNY Oneonta,

This short video discusses a few ways to creatively avoid potential plagiarism and non-sanctioned collaborative teaming (AKA cheating) in online course environments. It highlights online tools and authentic assessment approaches to written papers in which students must think outside of the box to respond while still displaying robust knowledge of course content. All the methods featured use assessment as a continuation of learning rather than as an end point of learning and include sharing and dialogic review with peers.

This is part of a series of posts collected by the TLTC and Faculty Center to share ideas and tools that have been helpful in the shift is teaching during the Spring 2020 semester.  If you are interested in sharing either a tool that you have found very useful or a method that you are now using in your courses, we would love to hear from you. Send your video or brief description to Chilton Reynolds and we will post it as a part of this series.
