POD Conference 2024

Staff and faculty from SUNY Oneonta’s Faculty Center for Teaching, Learning & Scholarship gathered with other educational developers in Chicago this November to share some of our on-campus programs and to learn about new directions and best practices for supporting university faculty and staff in teaching, learning, and more.

Ed Beck and Racheal Fest hosted a Workshop-in-a-Box session, “Getting Students Talking in your Classroom.” Drawing from a series of workshops we developed last year on campus, we shared resources for building a culture of conversation in your courses, and we modeled some favorite strategies. These strategies emerged from our goal of supporting our new Red Dragon Seminars, which emphasize small-class discussion. Chilton Reynolds and others also presented on our Future Ready Fellows program in a couple of different formats, including a poster session. We focused on building relationships across campus to reach shared goals, in keeping with the conference theme of relationship-rich education.

Faculty associates and Center staff also attended a range of panels and workshops to bring new ideas back to campus. We sought out novel strategies for building a mentoring program, supporting critical engagement with AI, developing summer teaching offerings, and more. We hope to put these ideas into practice for our faculty in the future!
