This month, the Faculty Center hosted a roundtable conversation focused on assigning podcasting to students in a range of courses. Faculty from Communications, Education, and more shared assignments they’ve developed for major and gen ed contexts across the lower and upper divisions.
While some assignments, such as those for a Digital Storytelling course, helped students master sound editing, many supported students in using basic tools to share their ideas in audio form. Favorite tools included Audacity, Garage Band, Soundtrap, PodBean, and Adobe Podcast Studio.
Faculty shared tips growing out of their own experiences, including incorporating a workshop day to help students get familiar with tech platforms, playing students examples of model podcast episodes, and grouping students to keep grading manageable.
