This fall, the Office of the Provost and the Faculty Center launched UDL Academy: Beyond Compliance. The Academy offers faculty participants online and in-person training in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), an approach to accessible teaching that both includes and pushes us beyond teaching with Title II compliance in mind. UDL is an educational framework instructors can use to develop flexible learning environments that accommodate individual learning differences. Developed and updated by the nonprofit CAST, the framework draws upon research in the learning sciences, including cognitive neuroscience, to support inclusive classroom practices.
Academy participants will learn about UDL through an asynchronous Brightspace course and share their teaching approaches at monthly meetings with colleagues. Ultimately, each participant will revise a unit from a course of their choice with UDL principles in mind. We’re hoping to share some revised course materials with the campus community.
If you’re interested in joining us in the spring, please reach out to the Faculty Center (facultycenter facultycenter@oneonta.edu). UDL Academy participants earn a stipend of $750 for a one-semester commitment.
