This semester, the Faculty Center hosted Dr. AJ Fallon-Korb, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at SUNY Cortland (and a former colleague here at SUNY Oneonta!), both on campus and online. In “The Belonging Blueprint: Building Connection from the Inside Out,” Dr. Fallon-Korb drew from her research on belonging to share concrete strategies for fostering community on campus. Dr. Fallon-Korb focused on identifying and managing critical voices, understanding situational salience, and moving beyond inclusive gestures.

Faculty and staff reflected on how we can put these resources into practice with students and colleagues at SUNY Oneonta. The conversation built on an unofficial focus on belonging this year. Faculty Associate Dr. Penina Kamina faciliated a professional learning community devoted to Belonging: The Science of Creating Connection and Bridging Divides, by Geoffrey L. Cohen.
