A Faster Way to Get Your Test Questions into Blackboard (finally!)

Dr. Sarah Portway,
Department of Human Ecology,
SUNY Oneonta,

If you have ever tried to create a quiz or test in Blackboard, you’ve probably noticed that the part where you have to copy and paste the questions from your word processing file into the quiz’s text boxes takes a lot of time. Thanks to a colleague, I’ve discovered an easy to use Blackboard Quiz Generator that speeds up the process—a lot!

First, I had to learn how to format questions for the generator in my word processing software. To learn how to format the questions, I used the link I’ve provided, and the quiz generator I recommended can also generate example questions for you. The formatting was very straightforward and intuitive. Once you copy and paste your formatted questions into the generator, it shows you which questions are incorrectly formatted so you can correct your mistakes. Once you have your questions generated, click download, and presto! You’re ready to import the test into Blackboard.

These sound like a lot of steps—especially if you a new to these platforms. If you can make a quiz in Blackboard already, I’ll bet you can use this generator in under an hour. The time invested in learning this time-saving trick was minimal compared to the hours I spent copying and pasting questions for my weekly reading quizzes!
