SUNY Oneonta focuses its teaching and learning efforts around a selection of high-impact practices inspired by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). These practices aim to enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and career readiness.

The institution emphasizes several core areas, including Project-Based Learning, Collaboration, Inclusive and Global Learning, ePortfolios, and Open Education. Additionally, Universal Design for Learning is integrated to ensure that teaching practices are accessible to all students, fostering inclusivity.
